ECO Member States to meet on the sidelines of the 13th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties of the United Nations of the Convention on Biological Diversiity which is held from 2 to 17 December 2016 in Cancun, Mexico.
ECO Side Event on the Margins of the COP 13 of UNCBD

Zistboom: ECO Member States to meet on the sidelines of the 13th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties of the United Nations of the Convention on Biological Diversity which is held from 2 to 17 December 2016 in Cancun, Mexico. 

According to the website of the ECO Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ECO-IEST) at this meeting, delegations of the ECO Member States will discuss ECO contributions of the CBD agenda, including the implementation of the Work Plan on Biodiversity in the ECO Region for 2016-2020.

At this meeting which is planned to be held on 12 December 2016, in addition to the delegations of the Member States, representatives of the ECO Secretariat, ECO Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ECO-IEST) and Secretariat of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity will also participate. 
The main topics of this meeting, among all includes: 
  • ECO Region's Contribution to the UNCBD Agenda;
  • Implementation of the Work Plan on Biodiversity in the ECO Region for 2016-2020;
  • Enhancement of the Regional Synergy and Coherence on Biodiversity;
  • Focusing on ECO-CBD Collaboration on the Work Plan priorities.
About ECO

ECO is an intergovernmental regional organisation established in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey as the successor of Regional Cooperation for Development (RCD) (1964-1979) for promoting economic, technical and cultural cooperation.

In 1992, ECO was expanded to include seven new members, namely: Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Republic of Azerbaijan, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Republic of Uzbekistan. 


About ECO-IEST

Following the proposal for establishment of a College of Environment to the ECO Ministerial Meeting (Istanbul, 2004), establishment of the ECO-IEST was adopted at the 3rd ECO Ministerial Meeting on Environment (Almaty, 2006). IEST was formally inaugurated in February 9th, 2011. The Institute organises training courses, consultation workshops, regional meetings, as well as facilitating networking and exchange of knowledge and experiences. Conducting study programmes and development of regional projects are other activity fields of IEST.
